Writing Our Way Through

Hidden in the beautiful rolling hills of the Berkshires, away from traffic jams and daily chores,
Carole has a house, a house that nurtures the creative process.

This fall, a small gathering of writers will disappear into Boulderwood Farm for three days of focused work.

We will spend time in deep quiet. We will break bread with other writers. We will have access to author and writing coach Amy Hale for group exercises and lively pep talks. We will drink coffee while we write morning pages, go on hikes, get in the wood-fired hot tub, be inspired by one another. No matter where you are in your writing journey, from published author to someone who has an idea they want to get on the page in a supportive environment, everyone is welcome.

Just you, your work in-progress, and a quality of silence and community that opens doors.

While writing is notoriously lonely, with eight writers-in-residence, plus writing coach, Amy, hostess and chef Carole, and our lovely guide and coordinator, Barb, you may either tough out that loneliness or hunt up someone to commiserate with.

The Basics

Everything is provided… clean comfortable bedrooms and shared bathrooms. A wood-fired hot tub. Three meals a day. Chef Carole is almost too wonderful. All our food is locally sourced (whenever possible), generously portioned, made with care. Good coffee is essential.

Of course, allergies can be accommodated. Carole provides ample snacks, wine, and cocktails in addition to those meals that will bring us together around the table in community.

Schedule:

You set up the day exactly as you want it. Join Carole for early morning Qigong. Join Amy for morning discussion and inspiration about solid habits and practices to take home as well as how to cultivate a lively creative process, or go right to work on your own.

Sign up for one-on-one coaching sessions in the afternoons, commune with fellow writers, go for long walks or a guided hike, sit outside in the beautiful autumn air.

Later in the day, come together to share writing and companionship, some hilarious prompt writing during cocktail hour, and post-dinner salon to moan about or celebrate the day’s work. We may decide to go on an adventure to Edith Wharton’s nearby home, or not.

At meals and in the evenings, hang out with new friends around the fire or chill on your own. Solitude is respected and encouraged.

Amy M. Hale is an author who also cowboys for a commercial cattle operation in Arizona. She believes that silence, solitude, and stillness have the ability to heal our creative souls in a world that is noisy, crowded, and busy. By retreating into beauty, we may hear our own unique voices bubbling up.
